Duct replacement cost in Oviedo, FL
Researched Florida figures put ductwork modification on a system replacement at $500 to $1,500. In Oviedo it comes up often because of when the city was built: 25.0% of its 12,263 residential parcels date from 1970 to 1989, and those duct systems were sized for the equipment of their day, not for a modern variable-speed air handler.
Read this before you use any number on this page. Every figure here is a researched third-party market range with its source and capture date named beside it. None of them are a contractor’s price and none of them are a quote. They are here so you can sanity-check a quote you have already been given.
What is actually sourced, and what is not

For a full whole-house duct replacement, we found no dated Central Florida figure and will not estimate one.
Why this is an Oviedo question and not a generic one
Look at where the housing stock actually sits. Alafaya Woods — the HOA’s own figure is 2,230 homes, developed from 1985 to the last homes in 1996 — is the largest single block of thirty-to-forty-year-old housing in the city. The county appraiser records Alafaya Woods Phase 2 at a 1986 median with 100% of its parcels in the 1970–89 band, and Alafaya Woods Ph 01 Unit B at a 1985 median, also 100%. Twin Rivers Sec 3A carries a 1990 median with 32.2% still in that band.
Those houses are not on original equipment. They are on a second or third changeout — against duct runs and return sizing that have never been touched. That is the case where the duct allowance on a quote is a genuine cost rather than an upsell.
Contrast the newer end of the same table: the Hamptons Second Replat and Oviedo Gardens both carry 2016 medians, and Isles of Oviedo 2011. On those, a duct line item deserves a harder question.

Replacing ducts changes what the City wants on the application
Oviedo publishes a dedicated HVAC Change Out Permit Application Guidelines page. Every changeout needs the ACCA Manual J-2016 sizing calculation and proof of the manufacturer and model numbers. If the ductwork is being replaced, two more deliverables appear:
- A duct layout including all supply and return ducts.
- Energy calculations on form R402-2023 for residential work.
Both take real time to produce. A quote that includes duct replacement but no line for the layout and the energy calculations is a quote that has not thought about the application yet.

Five business days — when it applies
Since 1 July 2026 a local government must approve, approve with conditions, or deny a mechanical permit application within 5 business days — but only where the work is on an existing single-family dwelling, the value of the work is under $15,000, and the applicant is using the local government plans reviewer. Plenty of full changeouts now clear $15,000, and those fall into a longer tier of the same statute. Nobody should promise you five days without checking all three.

Ductwork questions
How much does duct replacement cost in Oviedo?
The one Florida-specific figure our research found is $500 to $1,500 for ductwork modifications carried out as part of a system replacement, from a cost guide published by an Oviedo contractor. That is modification — resizing returns, replacing runs, sealing — not a whole-house tear-out.
We do not have a sourced range for a full duct replacement in this market and we are not going to invent one. Source for the modification range: AC replacement cost guide for Florida, published by an Oviedo contractor.
Does replacing ductwork change the permit?
Yes, and this is specific to Oviedo’s published guidelines rather than a general statement. If the existing ductwork is being replaced, the City requires a duct layout showing all supply and return ducts plus energy calculations on form R402-2023 for residential work, on top of the Manual J-2016 sizing calculation and the equipment model numbers that every changeout needs.
That is real drafting and calculation work. It belongs in the quote as a line item rather than appearing as a surprise after the job starts. Source: City of Oviedo Permit Guidelines (PDF) — p.36, HVAC Change Out Permit Application Guidelines.
How do I know my ducts are the problem?
The honest answer is a static pressure reading, not a guess. But the pattern to look for is rooms that never match the thermostat, a system that runs constantly without satisfying, whistling at the registers, or a brand-new high-efficiency system that does not feel better than the one it replaced.
The last of those is the giveaway. A modern variable-speed air handler moves air differently from a 1986 single-speed unit, and on the return sizing of that era it is throttled. You paid for efficiency the duct system will not let you have. Uneven cooling between rooms.
